THREE VINTAGE BOMBS were found by elements of the PNP Provincial Command in an abandoned house in Barangay Tiguma, Pagadian City, a PNP official said.
Police Senior Superintendent Ramon Ochotorena, PNP Provincial Director of Zamboanga del Sur said the two (2) 80mm mortar bombs were recovered in an abandoned old residential house in Purok Malagkit, Tiguma, this city on the early morning of June 3, 2008. The following day (June 4), another 60mm HE/TNT vintage bomb was also recovered by the police in the same residential house. The police was suspecting that the said bombs were left by unknown persons for fear of explosion. Right after the recovery, said bombs were turned over to the army’s Explosive and Ordnance Division for proper disposition and safe keeping. Colonel Ochotorena said the recovered bombs have the potential to explode and have the capacity to destroy lives and properties. It was learned that the bombs were found days after the tragic explosion in Zamboanga City that killed a member of an indigenous tribe from Margosatubig and wounded at least 23 civilians. Ochotorena said the city of Pagadian and Zamboanga del Sur have been placed in tight security because of some reported bomb threats. At least 60 newly PNP graduates are now deployed in the city of Pagadian to augment the regular force of the city and the provincial policemen, Ochotorena added.
