Former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada has not learned his lesson while in detention for plunder. Although he is pardoned and able to restore his citizen’s rights and privileges, he should have been cautious and careful enough to desist from making known any intention to run again for president. Whether he likes it or not the history books will reckon with the fact that he has been properly charged, fairly tried and found guilty of a heinous crime, such as plunder. The Filipino electorate is not that foolish and mindless to consider voting for the top office of the land a plunder convict.

Buenaobra Provoked?

Pagadian City police chief Buenaobra must have been provoked to the limit of his patience by Mayor Mirrar’s daughter who suffered not only maltreatment but near-death mauling. Ask every one who is acquainted with and who knows the girl, they will chorus the same line “she deserved it.” However, the PNP chief must face the consequence of his uncontrolled temper and tantrum. Whether he likes or not, he has violated a particular law protecting women and committed “police brutality” which strikes fear and chilling apprehension among the residents of Pagadian City.

Presidential Elections a Nightmare

The 2010 presidential elections will remain a dream, if not a nightmare, for several ambitious senators. If the majority of Filipinos finally realize that ours is such a rotten system wherein the Senate is normally the stumbling block to real and sustained progress, it will be the whole citizenry which will move for charter change and opt for a unicameral parliamentary form of government, which will eventually bring about abolition of the Senate and consign the senators to history.

 Minority President

However, if there will be no charter change, the next president will still be a “minority president” because his election will come by mere plurality and not my majority, as a true and real democracy requires and demands. This will be so, because there will be no less than four (4) strong candidates who will aspire for that coveted office in Malacañang Palace. That, again, is another sad spectacle for the present rotten system.

Bad Secret in Judiciary

Recently, I was fortunate to be able to share a “bad secret” which have been solicitously kept among members of the judiciary. This is in relation to the payment of filing fees and other docket fees when filing an action, pleading or petition in court, as required by law and the rules. There are certain judges who conspire with their own clerks of court by allowing the payment of these filing and other docket fees by installment. Result: the judge is personally guilty of giving due course to an action, pleading or petition over which he has not yet acquired jurisdiction. The law and jurisprudence are emphatic on this – it is only when the required filing fee is fully paid that the case is properly registered and docketed and, therefore, properly given due course. Again, the real culprits are dirty and ugly politicians sitting in power who wanted to impose their will upon members of the judiciary who owes them personal favors.
