In response to the public's outcry against check points manned by uniformed men, the 5th Infantry Battalion,1ID,PA based in Romarate, Aurora conducted a checkpoint operation seminar to train thirty six (36) enlisted personnel and twenty-eight (28) Cafgu Personnel in proper checkpoint operation conduct.

The seminar focused on the preparation of the army personnels for future operations in order to have proper knowledge on how to conduct checkpoints, control of traffic and how to apprehend unauthorized armed individuals.

Lt. Col Pablo M. Lorenzo, Commanding Officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion, 1ID,PA said that the seminar is also to promote leadership, military courtesy and discipline.

“This kind of training assures the uniformed men to have the opportunity to learn in manning chechpoints that will deal more with the civilian commuters”. He said.

It may be recalled that some checkpoints established in highways had been the talk of every commuters who in one way or another have unpleasant experience.

Most of the uniformed personnel manning checkpoints are not well trained especially in the inspection of vehicles of civilian and, even public transport utilities.

The personnel manning the checkpoints are observed to be undisciplined with high-powered firearms as if the highways are war torn areas.

With the said seminar on checkpoint operations, the public is now assured of disciplined personnel conducting inspection along the highways and roads.

“The training was not only aimed to develop the soldiers to be abreast with the modern and lawful approach of checkpoints operations but also it provides the knowledge on how to conduct security operations normally implemented by the AFP.” Lt. Col Lorenzo added".

Hopefully for us civilian commuters, this seminar will redound to a more positive experience with disciplined and courteous military personnel manning checkpoints not only here in Pagadian City but also in the whole of Zamboanga del Sur.
