Page 1 of 3 Seventy Five Families are now homeless due to an afternoon fire which damaged and razed fifteen houses including three boarding houses in Zulueta Street, Purok Paglaum,Sta Lucia District, Pagadian City. Video footage can be found here .
A fire call was recieved by the Pagadian Fire Station at 3:35 PM, October 16, 2007 and immediately fire trucks (FT # 04 (Morita Pumper) with Shift Commander SF02 Rolando H Roda and 1st Responding F/Truck Crew SF01 Crispin Camboangga responded to the area.Upon arrival of the firemen houses are already engulfed with fire. After a few minutes BFP Super Tanker (F/T # 05 with CFM C/Inspector Clemente M. Alvarez and PCWD followed to augment the first responding firemen. In an early statement, witnesses said that the fire started in a boarding house owned by a certain Alinton. But Fire Investigators do not as yet confirm this. As of this report the Bureau of Fire Protection, Pagadian Station is still investigating the fire incident. Houses made of Light Materials. The 15 houses that were razed by the hour-long fire were made of light materials such as wood and other indigenous materials. Fire investigators said that because of this materials the fire spread faster to other houses. The fire that hit and damaged the fifteen houses were controlled by the responding firemen together with the support of the City’s water district water tanker and the community itself at exactly 4:40 pm. Estimated damage of the fire was placed at 4 million pesos in properties including one Multi-Cab of a certain Nating Palamos which at that time was parked in the garage of his residence. Fire Victims Left With Nothing Meanwhile some of the boarders in the three boarding houses scampered for safety without bringing anything of their belongings. “Kalit lang miulbo ang kalayo, nanagan mi palayo sa balay” ( the fire spread fast we immediately ran outside) said one of the boarders. Meanwhile some of the boarders who were in school and work came home with nothing left of their belongings and just cried. Other victims were given immediate assistance by the City Department of Welfare and Social Services with rice, sardines, and some used clothings. Photos of the Fire
