Page 2 of 2 Lurawan.com added that, the MILF has called on its combatants in Basilan to stay put and observe maximum vigilance and restraint and ensure that coordination with government forces through the mechanism of the CCCH and Local Monitoring Team (LMT) shall be pursued at all times to prevent the repeat of the July 10 bloody clash.
Abbas Salung, MILF CCCH member based in Basilan, said that he is maintaining a round-the-clock monitoring of the ground situation so that no encounter would take place between MILF and government forces.
“We do not want another Guinanta to happen again,” he said, even as he urged his counterpart in the government to do the same. Concern NGOs, Pos, Civil Societies and other local government units in the region are now contemplating what to do in order to help the critical situation in Basilan that may escalate to the nearby provinces in Central and Southwestern Mindanao. In other development, The International Monitoring Team lead by Malaysian MGEN Dato’ Md Ismail bin Ahmad Khan of the Royal Malaysian Armed Forces heightens their watch over the seemingly erupting conflict in Basilan. About 5,000 Marines are in the island province to take part in an offensive to arrest the ASG suspects, who were positively pinpointed in the findings of the Independent Joint Fact-Finding Committee (IJFFC) organized by the MILF and the government coordinating committees on cessation of hostilities (CCCH).
