Six NPA surrenders

     The six were presented by 53rd IB CO Lt.Col. Manny Sison last May to Col. Jovencio Magalso represented by Col. Alexander Dicang, Deputy Commander to the 102 Brigade during the medical mission of the Army’s Medical and Dental Civic Action Team (MEDCAP) at Diplo, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur. The simple ceremony was witnessed by Mayor Allan Damas and members of the media.

     They were identified as subanens, namely: (1) Junior Salibulan Balibes aka Roger, (2) Julindo Hapitan Gias aka Jan-jan, (3) Lumambo Lagungan Damo aka Alex/Jerry, (4) Junjie Gon Supring aka Omar, (5) Jen Ligisan Giginan aka Ton-ton and (6) Arnel L. Papahan aka Jojo. They all brought with them high powered firearms, grenades and other subversive documents of the CPP-NPA.

     Among the six, it was Ka Roger, 20, who gave statements to the local media. He said that he was by bluffed by the men who persuaded him to join the organization. He left his former job that earned him P3,000 a month to join the CPP-NPC organization with a promised salary of P5,000 per month but received nothing out of it. He said he wanted to defect from the underground movement long before but it was not easy to escape from the organization. He was with the Communist-Terrorist Group for 1 year and 8 months serving as political officer.

     Ka Roger said he along with the 5 comrades decided to return to the mainstream of society for they will remain in the underground work they will sow nothing except death as they became the enemy of the government.

     Much more, he could no longer withstand living in the mountains away from his loved-ones evading from getting caught by the authorities. 

     Ka Roger also disclosed that at the height of campaign period for the May 14 elections, they were directed by the higher command to campaign for BAYAN MUNA, allegedly a left-leaning partylist.

     He expressed observation that the party list they were campaigning for was not as strong as others since they had to enforce intimidation to the masses to get support to the party.

     Meanwhile, it was gathered that Partylist Representative Teddy Casiño of Bayan Muna, accordingly, was disappointed as to the turnout of election in Zamboanga del Sur where his party did not make it in the top 10 among the 93 partylists to be voted by the people here.

     Provincial Comelec Supervisor Ignacio Baya reported the Top 10 party list organizations in Zamboanga del Sur, as follows: (1) United Movement Against Drugs (UNIMAD), (2) Ang Laban ng Indiginong Filipino (ALIF), (3) Anak Mindanao (AMIN), (4) Kapatiran ng mga Nakulong na Walang Sala, (5) Alliance for Rural Concerns (ARC), (6) APEC, (7) COOP-NATCCO, (8) Buhay Hayaang Yumabong, (9) Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy (ANAD), and (10) Action for Dynamic Development, Inc.
