These were the accusations of Mayor Mirrar when interviewed by the media here. “My daughter is not a hardened criminal or even considered as a hardened criminal. The fact that she is a woman means it is not proper for a police officer to maul them specially they have not committed any crime

 

My daughter and her woman friend was brought to the Police station but instead of being safe there they were instead punched and kicked by COP Buenaobra and another policeman. They were also hit using a plastic chair and even butt strucked by a pistol in the head resulting in a wound that required seven stitches. While in the police station they were placed inside the radio room and its lights were turned on and off. The COP and his men treated my daughter and her companion inhumanely and like animals while inside that radio room at the Police Station, Mayor Mirrar angrily told the reporters.

 

Lakewood Municipal Mayor Domingo Mirrar will seek justice or any legal action against Pagadian City Chief of Police (COP) PSI Oscar Tan Buenaobra for allegedly mauling his daughter and another woman on December 24, 2007 at 12:45 midnight.

Protect Life and Property are Police Mission

“Let's forget that I am a Mayor, let's just focus on the victims which are women and did not commit any crime. They were brought to the Police station and treated like pigs by the policemen  which is highly improper. It is normal for a father like me to react to what happened to his daughter. She is now in the hospital. Before I became a Mayor I was then a Municipal COP and I can not remember that I committed Human Rights violations or any crime against civilians during those days while in service because if you will follow only the mission of a police it is to protect the life and property of the people,” Mirrar disclosed.

Mayor Mirrar went to the PNP Provincial Command to put in record in the police blotter the mauling incident; he only contacted the Provincial Director Ramon Ochotorena thru his cellular phone.

Mayor Mirrar advised his constituents in Lakewood not to come to Pagadian City because they might be also victims of police brutality.

The victim is the daughter of Mayor Mirrar identified as Aurora ‘Au-au’ Mirrar, 34 years old, single and businesswoman-owner of a barbecue place in front of the City Hall. She sustained a fracture at her left arm and seven stitches at the left back of her head and multiple contusions at the different parts of her body. Her companion identified as Lenny Tabano, 37 years old, single, and also a businesswoman at the same place, who sustained four stitches at the right back of her head, contusion at her breast and injuries at the different parts of her body. Both were confined at the Pagadian Community Hospital.

Mauling Took Place Even Inside Police Station

It was learned that prior to the incident, there was a man sitting inside their establishment eating mango shake and unexpectedly “a person in civilian attire with firearms mauled the man. During the commotion I asked them what is happening. I was surprised when I was hit and punched many times by the allegedly policeman who was later identified as COP Buenaobra. I fell to the ground when hit. While still down on the ground, I was punched and kicked at my breast and stomach. My companion who trying to help and held on to me but she was also punched and choked by Buenaobra. I was even instructed to pickup a firearm owned by one of the police which was placed on the table, but I refused.

 

I was asked to identify myself. When I told them that I am a daughter of Lakewood Mayor Mirrar, I was mauled again kay naghambog daw ko nga anak sa Mayor. We were brought to the Police Station. We were placed inside the radio room and our cellular phones were taken by the policemen. We can not ask for any assistance. I noticed the man who was mauled first already sustained a black eye and injuries. Au-au told this reporter when interviewed at the hospital. The other man was later identified as an army man. He was able to text his commanding officer who rescued him later.

The women were detained at the police station. They waited without medical treatment inspite of their injuries until 10:00 oclock the following morning, without breakfast waiting for COP Buenaobra to wake up. COP Buenaobra sleeps in the police station. After COP Buenaobra woke-up and learned what happened the night before he asked as if unaware of what he did, “ano ba ang nangyari sa inyo, bakit dugoan kayo at may mga pasa at sugat pa? (what happened to you?why are you bloody and with bruises and wounds)”  Buenaobra asked them. Kayo po ang may kagagawan nito kagabi, (you were the one who did this to us last night) we replied,” Lenny also narrated. It was only after this that they were brought to the hospital to receive treatment and Mayor Mirrar notified.

COP Oscar Tan Buenaobra refused to comment when asked by the media regarding the issue. According to him, he will only comment when he receives a proper complaint from Mayor Mirrar.
