Pagadian City – Liga ng Mga Barangay President Ricky Alajeño will conduct an investigation regarding the closure of the Liga Merchandizing. A Liga Board Resolution was passed to this effect during their first regular session on December 8, 2007 at the Liga City.
It was learned that 50 out of 54 barangays contributed 2% from their Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) as capital share for the establishment of Liga Merchandizing during the time of the late Liga President Sultan Abdul Marcaban located beside the Liga City along F.S. Pajares Avenue. This 2 percent contribution amount to around P600,000, Liga Auditor Esparaguera told this reporter.
The Liga ng Mga Barangay Board passed a resolution requesting the Liga Auditor, Brgy. Captain Guillermo Esparaguera of Barangay Dao to conduct an inventory and to find out the financial status of the Liga Mechandizing.
Closed Liga merchandizing at left of Liga City
“Since the assumption of former Liga President now elected City Councilor Bienvenido C. Culve, there was no meeting called to discuss the status of the Liga Merchandizing. When Barangay Kawit Chairman Sangcadra Dimasar took over as Liga President, he instead ordered the closure of the establishment without consultation from the members,” Alajeño (shown in top left photo) told this writer. Reportedly, Dimasar ordered the closure because the sales can not support the wages of two sales lady and one pharmacist and other expenses.
The Liga Merchandizing was initiated by the late Liga President Sultan Abdul Marcaban on 2005 and it was realized when Ben Culve assumed office as president of the Liga. It was established for selling groceries and assorted Medicines to supply the Botika ng Barangay.
“We don’t have enough funds to subsidize the losses, the Liga income is only coming from the annual dues which is P2-thousand times 54-barangays equals P108-thousand and 25% will be remitted to the national office, another 25% will go to the provincial and the remaining 50% or 54-thousand pesos will be for the local that will be used for the Liga annual operating expenses,” Esparaguera explained.
“Whatever the findings in the conduct of inventory and if necessary, the two former officials who are also members of the Liga Board as past presidents will be requested to explaine.” Esparagera disclosed.
The two former Liga Presidents was invited to appear during the regular board meeting in order to shed light the issue.
