Brgy Capt. Sangcadra Dimasar
In an almost foregone conclusion, Barangay Chairman Sangcadra Dimasar of Barangay Kawit was elected as Vice President of the Liga Ng Mga Barangay during the conduct of the Special Election for the position of vice president today June 27,2007.

Dimasar will succeed the current president, Bienvenido Culve, who run and won last May 14, 2007 election as councilor of this city. When Culve will take his oath in the 10th City council, he will leave the presidency vacant giving Dimasar the presidency and with it the honor of becoming an ex-officio member of the City Council.

It may be recalled that Culve ( read article) became an Ex-Officio member of the Cityculve_unsapa.jpg Council also by succession after then Liga Ng Mga Barangay President Sultan Abdul Marcaban was killed in an ambush. Culve however, upon becoming president was not able to call for an election for the vice-presidency until now.

Dimasar garnered 38 votes against his opponent Ranier “Bobby” Soriano of  Barangay San Francisco who has only 9 votes. Forty nine (49) voted out of  fifty four (54) because there are three (3) Barangay Chairman from the barangays Dampalan, Palpalan and Diborok who were disqualified to vote for the non-payment of annual dues. Two other votes were voided and nullified.

During the filing of  their certificates of candidacy on June 21, 2007, four Barangay Chairmen filed their candidacy, Sangcadra Dimasar of Barangay Kawit, Fernandito Mondarte of  Barangay Santa Lucia, Ranier Soriano of San Francisco and Dionesio Sumampong of Barangay San Pedro.

Three days before the special election, Sumampong withdrew his candidacy and Mondarte also withdrew early today.co_barong_unsapa.jpg

“All the Barangay Chairmen know already that I am supporting Dimasar,” Mayor Samuel Co told this reporter in an exclusive interview. Since we belong to one party I requested those who are running against Dimasar to withdraw and support my decision as a mayor because this is also the decision from our higher party leader, Mayor Co added.

“We need the strength and the cooperation of all the Barangay officials so that we may be able to fast-track whatever projects and programs that we have in our city.” Co stressed

Dimasar will only serve for three months since this is his last term. It can be remembered that a Barangay Election is scheduled to be held this coming October.
