Mayor Co Vies for RDC Chairmanship City Mayor Sammy wants the Regional Development Council (RDC) chairmanship after Governor Auring E. Cerilles manifested no interest to the post.
The RDC is a recommending body for development projects to be implemented in the region under the lookout of the National Economic Development Council. Since the lady Governor did not vie for it, I’d rather take the cudgel if only to have more development support from the national government to this city and the province in general, Co reasons while attending the First RDC meeting in Zamboanga City last August 6. Mayor Sammy Co and Gov. Rolando Yebes Co is challenging the incumbent RDC chair, Rolando Yebes, governor of Zamboanga del Norte who got the appointment from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo after the 2004 elections. The post is co-terminous with the elected local officials, according to DILG Provincial Director Abcede Asjali. Governor Cerilles, on her part, has signified her strong support to the nomination of Mayor Co. She claimed that the post was offered to her by the President but she declined it for she will now focus on her province as she is serving the last and third term as Provincial Governor. To be an RDC chair, he has to travel and hold meetings in the different LGUs of the Zamboanga Peninsula. At the RDC meeting, Cerilles articulated her support to Mayor Co as Pagadian is the new Regional Government Center of Region 9. According to Co he also got the support from Zamboanga Sibugay Governor George T. Hofer and Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn Uy. The names of Co, Yebes and Zamboanga City Celso Lobregat were already submitted to Malacañang for the President to decide. Last update : 12-08-2007 19:11
