 Gov. Cerilles raising the hands of Mayor Co and Cong. Yu With a margin of more or less 33,000 votes from his opponent, the City Board of Canvassers (BOC) proclaims incumbent City Mayor Samuel S. Co as re-elected mayor of Pagadian City ,this week after three long days of canvassing the May 14, 2007 Polls.
Co who garnered 46,612 votes together with his re-elected Vice Mayor Romeo Pulmones who also got the highest votes in the vice mayoralty race got 49,301 against Atty. Tata Quicoy who got 9,386 votes from the total registered voters of 102, 222 . While the mayor’s opponent Atty. Sandy Urro landed at 16,964 votes. In his proclamation message, the mayor made emphasis on the outcome of the campaign that even with mudslinging election protest against him, he can only say that it is but natural, however, with the disqualification case he is facing now, that his legal counsel are ready to answer the protest of disqualification filed by his opponent, “Yes, the disqualification case filed by one of my supporters against my opponent is now null and void, however, with their case filed against me , my lawyers are making their move.”, he said. Further the mayor stressed that, after this election he will continue what he has done to develop the city, its on-going projects will be finished, and other programs of government will be implemented. “As you understand my term will end June 30, but with the people’s support I was able to take another term, so after July 1, I will start again and continue what I have already done for the people’s benefit and the improvement of our city not only in terms of infrastructures, but with new innovations like full promotion of the city’s tourism industry, and other programs which will be my priority in my second term.” Co adds. In the May polls, the BOC composed of COMELEC City Registrar Atty. Dinah Cagampang-Sapong as Chairman, DepED City Superintendent Erlinda Salera, and City Prosecutor Atty Reynaldo Goan also proclaimed the City Councilors who won the election. They are: Re-elected Councilor Romeo Tan, (40,643 votes) Councilor Eric Bersales, (39,396 votes) Councilor JP Villegas, (33,708 votes) Councilor Almando Sanoria (33,246 votes) Councilor Estrellla Arao, (32,428 votes) ABC President Ben Culve, (31,087 votes) Councilor Noli Garcia, (31,073 votes) Councilor Jun Bajamunde, (30,950 votes) and new comer Barangay Captain Wilson Co, (29,442 votes) and Engr. Arnold Gavenia (26,830 votes). Pagadian, a component city of Zamboanga del Sur, belongs to the 1st district of the province. Its former representative, Congressman Isidoro E. Real Jr., who lost this May polls, welcome its new representative for the 14th Congress, Engr Victor Yu of the NPC-Kampi. Engr. Yu garnered 38,460 votes against former Congressman Real who only got 20,105 votes in the City, will now be the District Representative. In his statement to the local media, Yu said that whatever he can make in this new endeavor in his life as a neophyte politician, he will assure the Pagadianons that he will be in congress not to join the silent committee’s but to voice out what Pagadianons want with this government. “I am new, yes, but I will assure our people in the city that, being their Congressman I will not disappoint them.
