 Brgy. Captain Sangcad Dimasar
Today who becomes the next
President of the Liga ng mga Barangay and sit as an ex-officio member
of the 10th City Council will emerge. So close to the oath taking next month of the
10th City Council and other elected officials, but then again it can
always be said that it is never too late.
It can be remembered that the Liga
ng Barangay was then led by Sultan Abdul Marcaban who was unfortunate and did
not survive the third attempt on his life. Culve was then the vice-president of
the late Sultan Abdul Marcaban.
Upon Sultan Marcaban's
demise, Culve took over as the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay leaving
his previous post as vice president vacant. As the president, he also
automatically sat as an ex-officio member of the 9th City Council.
It can only be surmised why Culve failed to call for election for the post of
vice president in the Liga ng mga Barangay to replace his vacated post.
During the recently held
election, Culve run and won as councilor of this city. Next month, July, the
councilors-elect will take their oath as members of the 10th City
council. Comes now the need for a vice president who will take over as
President of the Liga ng mga Barangay when the current President Culve will
take his oath.
It was gathered that there
were four who filed certificates of candidacy, namely: Hon. Dionisio Sumampong
of Barangay San Pedro, Hon. Fernandito Mondarte of Barangay Santa Lucia, Hon.
Sangcad Dimasar of Barangay Kawit, and Hon. Bobby Soriano of Barangay San
Francisco.
News and More have tried to
interview the four contenders, however, Sumampong of Brgy. San Pedro has officially
withdrawn his candidacy and Soriano of Brgy. San Francisco told this reporter that he will
not answer any question or give any comment since he had withdrawn his
candidacy for vice president in the Liga Ng Mga Barangay.
On the other hand, Mondarte
of Brgy. Sta. Lucia in his text message refused to be interviewed and don't
want to make any statement. Mondarte added that he does not want to preempt today's election.
As of yesterday June 26, City
Mayor Sammy Co had called all four to
talk on the issue of today's Liga election. Mondarte told this reporter
that he denied the invitation in order to evade any request from the mayor to withdraw his candidacy.
This fateful election day,
the long wait will be over. By the looks of it the top contenders will be
Barangay Captain Sangcad Dimasar of Kawit and Barangay Captain Fernandito
Mondarte of Sta. Lucia who will be squaring of. Let us just hope that there
will be no more withdrawals of candidacy this late in the game.
