Youths must register even he or she doesn’t like to vote for his Barangay Chairman and other Barangay Officials this coming October 29, 2007.
Filipino Youths who will celebrate their 18th birthday this year are advised to register in their respective Commission On Election Offices to be able to uphold the essence of democracy by exercising their right of suffrage.
In this part of Western Mindanao, City COMELEC Officer Atty. Dinah Cagampang Sapong has invited all the youths of Pagadian who are eighteen and above to register in her office pursuant to COMELEC Resolution No. 8220 granting Filipino youths whose age at least 15 to 18 years old on or before Octber 29 must register in the Special Registration that will be held on July 15 up to July 22 to be able to participate in the forthcoming SK and Barangay Elections set on the 29th day of October this year.

“Young adults who can now vote and participate or even run for public office are enjoined to register” Sapong said.
It may be recalled that, in the 13th Congress, Deputy House Speaker Raul Del Mar has filed a bill to postpone the Barangay and SK Election to October is unlikely to be amended due to reasons that, the incoming 14th Congress are former members of the last congress before May 2007 elections who win the election .
Del Mar said that, they don not have anymore time to tackle measures seeking to postpone the synchronized elections after it convenes on July 23.
“There were at least a dozen bills filed during the 13th Congress that sought to postpone the synchronized elections, but the incoming congress are of the same members who decided that the elections will be on October, this year. It is highly unlikely that they will changed their minds were arguments have already been considered.”
Meanwhile, Atty. Sapong added that “this will be the opportune time were they can register and vote”.
She explained further that the registration is also open to those who want to apply for change in name, transfer of registration record, correction of entry and reactivation or reinstatement of registration record.
The City COMELEC Office is open July 15 to 22 at 8:00 in the morning up to 7:00 P.M.
